NextGen - Communication in the power system of tomorrow

NextGen is a demonstration project finansed by the Danish TSO Energinet.dk. The objective is to contribute to the development of an internationally standardized information and communication system for DER. Furthermore, the project will contribute to a visionary development of the future integrated energy and information infrastructure. 

EURISCO's primary focus in the project is the IEC61850-7-420 standard, developed by the TC57/WG17 working group. EURISCO is a member of this group.

In this project, EURISCO is leading the danish contributions to the standardisation work, as well as the implementation of a NextGen gateway, installed in a danish combined heat and power plant. The gateway is used to demonstrate a real world communication with a DSO.

The hardware for the gateway is build from components mainly produced by SIEMENS.

Several Ph.D. students from Centre for Electric Technology at The Danish Technical University shall develop the technical specifications and use scenarios for the communication.
